Dr. Matt Fretwell is married and has three beautiful daughters. Dr. Fretwell is not only a church planting practitioner, and professor, but is a published author regarding missional praxis. He recently published a new three volume series with Kendall Hunt Publishing, Multiplying Jesus: Planting Churches, Multiplying Jesus: Revitalizing Churches, Multiplying Jesus: Missionary Preparedness (2022), as well as Church Planting by Making Disciple-Makers (2020).

Dr. Fretwell holds an Masters in Theology, M.Div. in Professional Ministries, and D.Min. in Great Commission Reproducible Disciple-Making from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary.


Matt is an ordained Southern Baptist Convention pastor. He serves with the Lausanne Church Planting Team, participates in the Movement Leaders Collective, Motus Dei Network, and many other global academic and research-connected organizations. Matt has a passion for global missions and reaching the lost and is an advocate board member of Living Bread Ministries (LBM), a global comprehensive Church Planting organization that helps the poorest of the poor. LBM reaches the slums of the world and helps people break the chains of poverty.

Matt has helped establish several global colleges by writing discipleship and church planting curricula. He has developed and implemented many church planting assessment tools and strategies. His passions are Great Commission related global movements, RDMs, DMMs, CPMs, and diaporic migration.
